Covid-19 lockdowns have taken a toll. Never again will we take for granted a “normal” stroll down a street or a hike in the hills. While many months of 2020 have been challenging, our new world also creates gratefulness.
Travel is not a luxury to the industry and people it employs. Talking to vacation rental management companies, tourism boards and people employed by every stretch of the industry is a study in the vast commerce of tourism. It’s also a reminder of the positive spirit of travel and the optimism of those in it’s employ.
“My business is non existent, but I love to swim in the ocean and it’s serene right now,” said a Hawaiian island rental property owner in May of 2020. “I’m getting energized for when it comes back.”
Benefits of Post Covid-19 Travel
- More flexibility with cancellations and date changes from airlines and hotels.
- Stronger protocols for cleaning.
- Expanded ideas for destinations. While folks were holed up consuming shows and movies, new destinations and interests may have cropped up. A visit to a big cat rescue operation, for example?
- Amazing deals (for now).
- Appreciation for any getaway. Bunking with the in laws or visiting any friend now takes on new appreciation. Aunt Mary’s could become an exotic location.
- Touchless travel procedures.
- A new understanding of online versus offline life. While we can download work, school and meeting, we can’t download experiences.
